Conflict Resolution
Especially in today’s volatile, uncertain, complex, and ambiguous world, multiple perspectives are needed in order to craft the best, most innovative solutions. This requires an environment in which different opinions can be vigorously discussed and debated in an open, collaborative way.
Yet, at times, healthy differences of opinion can deteriorate into stalemates. Emotions can flair and turn disagreements into unproductive arguments that lead to deep division. People get entrenched in their corners and resolution becomes seemingly impossible.
Some Facts About Workplace Conflict:
- Globally, people spend an estimated 2 billion hours per year in workplace conflicts.
- 85% of people report that they deal with conflict at work and 29% of those report that they have to deal with workplace conflicts frequently or always.
- The cost of dealing with workplace conflicts is estimated at 359 million dollars per year.
Organizations often do what they can to try to rectify these conflicts without success. As an organizational psychologist for 25 years, I understand both the business issues involved and people dynamics, which can be necessary and invaluable in unlocking apparently unresolvable conflicts.
